Simple Postoperative Care Tips

There are 4 phases that must be passed in the wound healing process starting from blood clots, the growth of new cells, new tissue begins to form, until the wound closes and heals.
The healing phase is influenced by nutritional factors, wound care and rest intensity. Good nutrition is consumed in patients after surgery, namely, increasing the consumption of foods that contain high protein, foods and drinks that contain vitamin C. For wound care using 3 principles, namely, using aseptic techniques when wound care, changing dressings regularly morning and evening, and watching for signs of infection.
Signs and symptoms of infection that the body responds to after surgery on the wound can cause pain, swelling in the area around the wound, feeling hot, redness, decreased skin function, purulent wounds, clear fluid discharge wounds and mixed with blood.
Infection can occur because there are several influencing factors, namely, infection of germs from outside, low body resistance, less mobilization, wounds exposed to water, dirty wounds due to non-optimal cleaning, not routine in wound care. Here are simple postoperative care tips
- Wash hands before and after treating wounds to prevent the spread of germs
- Unwrap carefully.
- Clean the wound using a solution of NaCl (salt) and boiled water. Do not use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide as they may slow healing.
- Avoid squeezing or rubbing the wound as it can make it worse and accelerate tissue damage.
- Treat wounds with antiseptic drugs (Betadine)
- Use a sterile bandage or plaster to close the wound and prevent germs from entering. Do not use cotton because cotton fibers will stick to the wound.
- Change bandages or plasters regularly, especially if they look dirty or wet
- Avoid wetting bandages or plasters with water when bathing or swimming.
